KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Saint Mary's College Lacrosse fell to Kalamazoo College on Wednesday night, 16-4. The Belles fall to 5-8 (2-3 MIAA) while the Hornets improve to 3-11 (2-3 MIAA).
Saint Mary's would get on the board first as sophomore Rachel Speckhard (Munster, IN) would score just 30 seconds into the game. Kalamazoo would come out and score three straight to take an early lead before senior Valentina Rubio (Wayland, MI) would cut the lead to just one. The Hornets would extend their lead to 6-2 before freshman Piper Downey (Northbrook, IL) would find the back of the net from sophomore Lana Skibins (Granger, IN) with less than a minute to play in the quarter. But the Hornets would score two goals with less than 15 seconds in the quarter to go into the first break with an 8-3 lead.
Kalamazoo would add two more goals in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 10-3 lead.
The Hornets would add another early in the third quarter before Speckhard would add her second goal of the night. Kalamazoo would then go on a 5-0 run to close out the game.
Speckhard would lead the team with two goals while Rubio and Downey each added one, Skibins grabbed the lone assist.
Senior goalkeeper Emma Zmudzinski (Granger, IN) would record seven saves on the night in three quarters of play while freshman Kaya Seaboy (Evansville, IN) would record two saves in the final quarter.

Saint Mary's will travel to Calvin University on Saturday, April 19, for a 4:30pm matchup. The Belles then return home to host Hope College in the regular season finale on Tuesday, April 22, at 4pm.
