MEQUON, Wis. - The Saint Mary's soccer team took undefeated and regionally-ranked Concordia Wisconsin to overtime before falling 2-1 against the Falcons on Saturday afternoon.
The host Falcons struck with a goal in the 13th minute of play. Saint Mary's had a scoring chance in the 23rd minute when Jillian Bowen put a shot on goal, and Kellen Hinchey had a shot go off the mark in the 33rd minute. Kam Lewkowski, meanwhile, kept the Belles right in the thick of things with seven saves over the final 12 minutes of the opening half of action.
The Belles got the equalizer on the first scoring chance of the second period. Rose Stackhouse found Lexi Trombly on the left side of the box, and Trombly buried the strike inside the right post to knot the score at 1-1 in the 56th minute. Lewkowski continued to shine as the freshman made seven more saves over the span of the second half. Among those stops was a kick save on a one-on-one play inside the box late in the half to keep Saint Mary's level with Concordia Wisconsin.
In the added period, Kellen Hinchey put a shot on goal less than two minutes into the stanza only to have the effort stopped. Lewkowski returned the favor with a save a minute later, but the Falcons captured the 2-1 decision on a goal in the 95th minute.
Lexi Trombly buried the goal for the Belles while Rose Stackhouse picked up an assist on the play. Kam Lewkowski registered 17 saves in goal for the Belles in more than 94 minutes of play.
The Belles (4-2) face off against Lake Forest in Illinois starting at 2:00 p.m. CDT on Sunday.
