LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Saint Mary's soccer team fell in a 2-0 final at Lake Forest on Sunday afternoon.

 

Both sides had chances early as the teams settled into the flow of the game. Kam Lewkowski registered back-to-back saves in the first three minutes. On the other end of the field, Maya Cole had a strike go over the crossbar in the fourth minute of action. Play continued to go back and forth with the Foresters registering two more shots on goal before Cole had a corner kick for the Belles fall short of yielding a scoring opportunity. Host Lake Forest, however, broke through with a goal in the 32nd minute.

 

Kam Lewkoswki opened the second half with another save in the 48th minute. Megan Saunders nearly notched the equalizer for the Belles less than two minutes later. The junior co-captain sent a header on frame in the 49th minute, but a defensive player cleared the ball away from a sure goal for the team save. Lexi Trombly, Jillian Bowen, and Sophia Fleming each fired shots as the Belles continued to push to draw even with the Foresters. A 75th minute goal by Lake Forest doubled the home side's lead late in the period. Rose Stackhouse registered a shot just left of frame in the 78th minute, but the Belles were unable to break through into the scoring column in the 2-0 final.

 

Six players for the Belles registered a shot led by Megan Saunders's on-goal shot. Kam Lewkowski made six saves in 79 minutes before Thallia Robles closed out the final 11 minutes of play.

 

The Belles (4-3) continue their four-game road stretch when they travel to Manchester on Wednesday. The game is set to start at 4:00 p.m.
