
ANGOLA, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Soccer fell to Trine University on Saturday in the first round of the MIAA Tournament, 5-0. This was the Belles first postseason appearance in 16 years. The Belles finish the season 7-9-1 (2-5-1 MIAA) while the Thunder improve to 11-4-3 (5-2-1 MIAA).
Trine got out to an early lead in the first half as they scored two goals in the first ten minutes. The Thunder were awarded a penalty at the 2:05 mark and converted for their first goal of the match. The Thunder would then extend their lead five minutes later with a goal at the 7:27 mark. They wouldn't finish there as Trine would go into the half with a 3-0 after scoring another goal at the 30:40 mark.
Trine wouldn't stop there as they would score two more in the second half at the 50:23 and 52:49 marks to finish off Saint Mary's.
The Thunder would outshoot the Belles 20-9 and 11-4 in shots on goal. Senior Izzi Linus (Washington Crossing, PA), junior Izzy Sherman (Fort Wayne, IN), and sophomore Margaret Slove (Spring Grove, IL) would all record two shots to lead the team while three other Belles would record a shot. Linus, Sherman, Slove, and junior Lauren Ryan (Carmel, IN) would all record one shot on goal. Senior goalkeeper Riley Lindsey made six saves on the day.
