Belles Conclude Fall Season at Hillsdale Invite

HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Saint Mary's tennis team wrapped up their fall season with a solid showing at the Hillsdale Invite on Friday in Michigan.
 
The event was made up of four doubles flights and eight singles flights. Division II members Tiffin and host Hillsdale took part in the tournament along with NAIA member Judson to round out the four-team field with the Belles.
 
Among the strong results for Saint Mary's at the event were Annika Smith and Kalyn Borger in the D doubles flight, Smith in the G singles flight, and Trinity Marshall and Borger in the H singles flight. Smith and Borger teamed up for a 6-1 victory in their first match against a doubles pairing from Judson. In the finals, the pair were narrowly edged out by a strong duo from Hillsdale in a 6-4 match. Smith then went on to win her opening match in G singles by a 6-3, 6-2 score over her Judson counterpart before taking the flight title in a 6-4, 6-2 final against an opponent from Hillsdale.
 
A 6-1, 6-0 win against a Tiffin foe for Trinity Marshall set up an all-Belles final in the H singles flight as Borger captured a 6-0, 6-2 decision over a Judson opponent. Marshall took the top spot after she edged out Borger in a 7-5, 6-3 battle.
 
Megan Davy and Alyssa Gulli won a consolation match in A doubles by a 6-3 score. Meredith Heckert and Concetta Ogden squeezed past teammates Nicole Becker and Lucy Chamberlin in the consolation match at B doubles. Lily Brandt and Kathleen McLeod won a tight 7-6 (2) match in the consolation C doubles contest.
 
Lucy Chamberlin took a 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 win over Alyssa Gulli in the consolation match at C singles. Kathleen McLeod earned a 6-1, 6-1 win in the consolation match at G singles for the Belles.
 
Saint Mary's returns to competition in February when they travel to Aquinas for matches against both Aquinas and Spring Arbor on February 15.
