Belles Take Down Quakers on Senior Day

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's tennis team capped off a stellar regular season as the Belles defeated Earlham 8-1 on Senior Day to go undefeated against non-conference opponents during the 2022-23 campaign.
 
Annika Smith and Kathleen McLeod made quick work of their opponents on their way to a commanding 8-0 win at two doubles for the Belles. Lucy Chamberlin and Kalyn Borger broke serve to take a 3-1 lead and extended their advantage to 5-2 at one doubles. Their Earlham counterparts made it a 7-4 match before Chamberlin and Borger ultimately prevailed in an 8-4 win for the Belles. 

McLeod again made quick work of her match as the senior was the first off the court with a 6-0, 6-0 win at four singles. Alayna Campbell followed suit moments later with a 6-0, 6-0 victory of her own at two singles. Emma Kealy earned a decisive 6-0, 6-0 win at three singles on the day. Lucy Chamberlin had several tightly-played points go the other way in a closely contested 6-1, 6-2 setback at one singles. The Belles picked up wins by forfeit at three doubles, five singles, and six singles in the match.
 
The 12-0 mark against non-conference opponents marks the first time the Saint Mary's tennis team has posted an undefeated regular season record against non-conference opponents in program history.
 
The Belles (17-2) now look ahead to the MIAA Tournament. Saint Mary's will be the No. 3 seed in the tournament and will travel to No. 2 seed Hope on Wednesday, April 26 for the MIAA Tournament Semifinal round. The match time is still to be announced.
