SAINT JOSEPH, Mich. - The Saint Mary's tennis team captured a 7-2 win over Spring Arbor University at the South Shore Racquet Club on Friday night.

 

Kathleen McLeod and Evelyn Demblans-Dechans were the first pairing off the court as the duo took an 8-4 win at three doubles. Alayna Campbell and Emma Kealy were stopped just short in an 8-5 setback at one doubles. Leah Hosang and Lucy Chamberlin gave the Belles a 2-1 overall lead as the pair prevailed 8-6 at two doubles. 

 

Hosang cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at four singles, and Chamberlin earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at one singles to put Saint Mary's a decision away from the team victory. Emma Kealy clinched the win with a commanding 6-0, 6-2 final at three singles. Kathleen McLeod outlasted her counterpart in a tight first set en route to a 7-5, 6-2 win at five singles. Evelyn Demblans-Dechans dropped just two games for a 6-1, 6-1 victory at six singles. Alayna Campbell ahd a marathon match at two singles but was narrowly edged out in a 7-5, 7-5 final.

 

In exhibition play, Hannah Gerner and Katie Hunter fell just short in an 8-6 doubles match. Annika Smith won an 8-3 exhibition singles contest. Ava Stengle battled in an 8-3 setback in her own exhibition singles match.

 

The Belles (3-0) have a short turnaround as they are set to host Saint Francis (Ind.) on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the South Bend Racquet Club.
