ADRIAN, Mich. - The Saint Mary's tennis team captured a 7-2 victory over host Adrian in the Belles' conference opener on Saturday.

 

Saint Mary's jumped out to a commanding 3-0 lead through the completion of doubles play. Hannah Gerner and Katie Hunter took an 8-5 win at three doubles as the first pair off the court. Alayna Campbell and Evelyn Demblans-Dechans teamed up for an 8-4 win at one singles, and Anna Gardner and Emma Kealy claimed an 8-4 win at two doubles for the three-flight lead.

 

Evelyn Demblans-Dechans won a straight-set 6-2, 6-2 match at three singles. Emma Kealy nearly forced a decisive third set but came up just shy in a 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) match at two singles. Anna Gardner clinched the win for the Belles with a back-and-forth 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 final in her four singles competition. Alayna Campbell battled back and earned an impressive victory at one singles in a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 final. Grace Clearwater was on the short end of a close 6-3, 7-5 final at five singles. Hannah Gerner capped off a gritty comeback in a nailbiter at six singles with a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7) victory to cap off the match.

 

The Belles (11-4, 1-0 MIAA) are back in action on Wednesday, March 27 when they host conference foe Alma at 4:00 p.m.
