Belles Shutout Cougars in Home Opener

MISHAWAKA, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Tennis defeated Concordia University Chicago, 7-0, for their first win of the year. The Belles go to 1-0 while the Cougars fall to 2-3.

Doubles

The duo of junior Evelyn Demblans-Dechans and freshman Lanie Brant got things started with a 6-0 victory in the number three doubles match. Senior Alayna Campbell and junior Emma Kealy followed shortly after with another 6-0 victory in the number one doubles match to claim the point in doubles for the Belles. Sophomore Sophia Pischalko and freshman Shannon Dudy finished off the doubles matches with a 6-1 win in number two doubles.

Singles

The Belles continued to stay hot in singles play with four straight 6-0 6-0 victories for Kealy in the number two, Dudy in the number five, Pischalko in the number four, and sophomore Anna Gardner in the number three to claim the match victory over the Cougars. Junior Hannah Gerner would follow with a 6-2 6-0 victory in the number six singles and Campbell would finish the match with a 6-0 6-1 win in the number one singles match.

UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES:

Saint Mary's heads north this upcoming weekend for the ITA Central Regional tournament in Kalamazoo, Michigan, September 27-28. The Belles then return home on October 7 to host Grace College in the final match of the fall season.
