Belles Sweep Spring Trip Openers

HILTON HEAD, SC - Saint Mary's College Tennis opened their spring trip with a pair of wins on Tuesday. They defeated West Liberty University, 5-2, and would take down Georgetown (Ky.) College, 4-3, in the nightcap. The Belles improve to 6-3 on the year while the Hilltoppers fall to 1-2 while the Tigers fall to 1-6.

Saint Mary's vs West Liberty

Doubles

Saint Mary's would dominate the doubles matches, taking all three to take the point. Senior Alayna Campbell (Granger, IN) and junior Emma Kealy (Hudson, OH) would take the number one doubles match, 6-4, while sophomore Sophia Pischalko (Granger, IN) and freshman Shannon Dudy (Glenview, IL) would take the number two doubles, 6-2. Sophomore Anna Gardner (Houston, TX) and freshman Lanie Brant (Stevensville, MI) would finish off doubles with a 6-1 win at number three.

Singles

West Liberty would take number one and two singles matches before the Belles would dominate play with wins at the number three, four, five, and six matches. Gardner would win at number three, 8-2, while Dudy would take the number four match, 8-1. The Saint Mary's would finish off West Liberty with Brant winning at five, 8-0, and Pischalko winning at six, 8-2.

Saint Mary's vs Georgetown (Ky.)

Doubles

Saint Mary's would keep their momentum as Campbell and Kealy would take the number one doubles match, 6-3. But Georgetown would bounce right back and take both the numbers two and three doubles matches to secure the doubles point.

Singles

The Tigers would take both the number two and four singles matches while the Belles bounced right back as Kealy would take the number one doubles match, 6-3 6-2. Gardner and Dudy would also take wins in the three and five matches respectively, Gardner winning 6-3 6-3 and Dudy winning 7-5 6-0. Coming down to the final match Pischalko and her opponent would go into a tiebreak to decide the match at the number six singles. Pischalko would take the first set before her opponent would bounce back and take the second. Both players would battle in the tiebreaker but Pischalko would come out on top, 6-2 6-7 (4-7) 10-7, to secure the win for the Belles.
