Belles Advance to Semifinals with Sweep of Thunder

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Tennis defeated Trine University, 4-0, in Monday afternoons MIAA Tournament Quarterfinal matchup. The Belles improve to 16-4 on the season while the Thunder finish their season 12-7.

Doubles

Saint Mary's would get out to a hot start early, taking back-to-back doubles matches to secure the doubles point. Senior Alayna Campbell (Granger, IN) and junior Emma Kealy (Hudson, OH) would easily handle their opponent at number one, winning 6-1. Sophomore Anna Gardner (Houston, TX) and freshman Lanie Brant (Stevensville, MI) would quickly follow suit, taking care of their opponent at number three to secure the point, 6-2.

Singles

The Belles would continue to dominate to kick off singles play. Kealy would kick things off with a quick take down of her opponent at the number two match, 6-1 6-3. Sophomore Sophia Pischalko (Granger, IN) would hold off her opponent's comeback at the number six match to give the Belles a strong lead, 6-0 6-4. Brant would then come out and shutout her opponent in the second set to claim the postseason win for Saint Mary's, 6-4 6-0.

Saint Mary's will head north to take on Kalamazoo College on Wednesday, April 30, in the MIAA Semifinals starting at 4pm.
