NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Volleyball defeated Benedictine University 3-0 on Tuesday in the home opener. The Belles improve to 4-1 while the Eagles fall to 2-5 on the year.
Both teams played evenly in the first set, but Saint Mary's came out victorious, 25-21, thanks to the help of freshman Kalli Lewskowski, who led the team in kills in the set with three, and senior Cali Allen, who led the team in digs with four and added two kills.
It was the same story again in the second set, however, while Benedictine had seven more kills than Saint Mary's, it was 11 errors that hurt the Eagles in the second set, as the Belles took the set, 25-21. Lewkowski added to her kills total with three more in the set while junior Delaney Martin added four digs in the set.
The third set was all Belles as they took the third and final set, 25-13. With help from the front line of the Belles, the Eagles couldn't get anything past and Saint Mary's took advantage of it.
Lewkowski finished the match with nine kills while sophomore Caroline Carens equaled her for the team high. Sophomore Karli Fegan finished with a team high 12 digs while Allen finished with 11.
