Belles Fall in Four Sets to Grizzlies

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Volleyball fell to Franklin College on Friday night, 3-1. The Belles fall to 4-2 on the year while the Grizzlies improve to 4-6.

While both of the first two sets were close, Franklin was able to take advantage of tallying double-digit kills in both sets to take an early 2-0 lead with a 25-22 win in set one and 25-20 win in set two. 

Saint Mary's bounced back in the third set with a 25-17 victory. The Belles used 11 kills and a .185 hitting percentage to take down the Grizzlies in dominating fashion. But, Franklin would battle back and edge out Saint Mary's 25-23 in the fourth and final set to secure the 3-1 victory.

Sophomore Caroline Carens led the match with 12 kills while three other Belles had five or more. Sophomore Abby Reese led the team in assists with 18 while freshman Giuliana Graczyk joined her in double-figures with 11. Senior Cali Allen had three of the team's six service aces and was one of two players with double-digit digs, 12. Junior Karli Fegan led the team with 17 digs.

UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES:

Saint Mary's is back in action tomorrow for two matches starting with a noon contest against the host Manchester University. The Belles then take on MIAA foe Alma college in a non-conference matchup at 2pm. Manchester and Alma played an 8pm contest following the Belles and Grizzlies matchup.
