GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Saint Mary's cross country team placed sixteenth in a field of 24 teams at the Calvin University Knight Invite on Saturday.

 

NCAA Division II and No. 11 ranked Hillsdale won the women's title with a score of 84. Oberlin, who is ranked No. 18 in NCAA Division III women's cross country, was second with a 116. Aquinas, ranked No. 13 in the NAIA poll, was third with a 129. Grand Valley State (NCAA DII No. 2) came in fourth place with a 132. Saint Mary's had a team score of 437 and placed ahead of conference opponents Albion, Alma, and Kalamazoo.

 

Julia O'Grady led the Belles with a time of 23:53.2 to place 72nd overall while earning 66 points toward the team score. Katie Glenn crossed the finish line in 24:02.7 for 85th overall (74 points). Addie Bobosky placed 106th overall and earned 89 points with a 24:25.9 for the Belles. Angela Bannan was not far behind as she came in with a 24:37.2 for 114th (94 points). Shanan Hamilton wrapped up the team score after posting a personal record 6k time of 25:05.6 - a 1:24 improvement upon her previous-best collegiate 6k time - to finish 135th and earn 114 points.

 

Riley Swope and Julia Bobosky finished back-to-back for the Belles. Swope ran a 25:49.2 and was 148th while Bobosky crossed the line in 25:51.6 for 149th.

 

Eight Saint Mary's runners then competed in the women's 6k open race on what was a preview of the NCAA Great Lakes Regional course at Calvin.

 

Bridget Kenney led the way in the open race with a 25:20.8 and was 27th overall. Alexa Zeese posted a 26:06.6 in her first collegiate 6k for the Belles and was 42nd. Maura Honan, Emily Blank, and Brigid Conmy finished within 13 seconds of one another. Honan ran a 26:33.5 for 56th place. Blank was a second behind with a 26:34.7 for 57th, and Conmy posted a time of 26:46.0 for 60th place.

 

Claudia Stiglitz came in at 27:31.4 for 72nd in the open race. Julia Crowley had a 28:01.0 and finished 81st. Mikayla Trumbla ran a 28:29.9 and was 87th to round out the Saint Mary's performances on the day.

 

The Belles are off from racing until Friday, September 20 when they compete in the Notre Dame National Catholic Invitational starting at 3:30 p.m.
