LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Saint Mary's cross country team competed at the Pre-National Race as part of the 2019 Louisville Classic at E.P Tom Sawyer State Park on Saturday.

 

According to race officials, a gate was opened at the wrong time due to a lapped runner, which caused the field to deviate to an alternate course for safety of spectators. The Games Committee determined that the race will be scored at 3.9k (last split point). That distance is approximately 2.42 miles.

 

The Belles placed 23rd in a field of 37 teams at the event. No. 7 nationally-ranked MIT won the race while No. 14 ranked Oberlin placed second. No. 15 St. Thomas came in third place as each of the top 11 teams in the field are currently ranked in the top 35 in NCAA Division III women's cross country.

 

Julia O'Grady had the top time for Saint Mary's with a 14:44.3 and was 65th at the final split point. Katie Glenn crossed the check point in a time of 15:16.5 and was 121st. Angela Bannan had a recorded time of 15:36.6 and was 152nd at the 3.9k point. Addie Bobosky was not far behind with a 15:39.3 and was in 159th place.

 

Bridget Kenney and Shanan Hamilton were neck-and-neck with matching times of 15:50.5 in 176th and 177th pace. Alexa Zeese had a posted time of 16:24.8 and was in 205th place at the final check point counted by the games committee as more than 250 runners competed from across the country.

 

The Belles are back in competition on Friday, October 11 at the Bethel Invitational at St. Patrick's County Park starting at 5:00 p.m.
