ANGOLA, Ind. - The Saint Mary's cross country team saw their top five runners finish within 11 scoring places of one another as the Belles took fourth place at the MIAA Championship on Saturday.
No. 25 ranked Hope captured the team title with a score of 32. Host Trine placed second with a score of 49, and No. 33 ranked Calvin placed third with a 54. The Belles had a team score of 115 and were 41 points ahead of fifth place Kalamazoo.
Julia O'Grady led the Belles with a 24:34.1 on the wet and muddy 6k course at Zollner Golf Course for 17th place overall. O'Grady was the third-highest finisher among freshmen runners in the race. Katie Glenn turned on the afterburners down the finish chute as the senior powered past a runner from Hope to take 18th place with a 24:36.9.
Addie Bobosky held off a runner from Calvin while placing 31st with a time of 25:22.8. Angela Bannan crossed the finish line in a time of 25:40.3 for 37th place. Bridget Kenney then wrapped up the team score with 40th place in a time of 25:50.5. Alexa Zeese had a strong kick down the stretch to finish ahead of a runner from Calvin with a 25:51.5 for 41st.
Shanan Hamilton and Riley Swope took back-to-back finishes of 45th and 46th with times of 25:59.0 and 26:00.9, respectively. Julia Bobosky placed 51st with a 26:15.0, and Brigid Conmy was 55th with a 26:31.1. Maura Honan posted a 27:06.7 to take 61st place for the Belles. Mikayla Trumbla scorched the final 100 meters of the race as the freshman passed eight different runners to take 66th with a 27:18.9.
Claudia Stiglitz finished 85th with a 28:26.4 at the 6k race. Julia Crowley put in a strong final kick to move past a Trine runner for 95th place in a time of 29:09.6. Emily Blank and Anna DeMars battled to finishes of 101st and 103rd with times of 30:04.5 and 30:24.3, respectively, as all 16 runners for the Belles turned in finishes at the event.
It is the first time since the 2015 season the Belles have finished in the top four of the league standings at the MIAA Championship race.
The Belles now prepare for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional race, which takes place on Saturday, November 16 at Calvin University.
